Created during a time of rapid industrial growth in Japan, the film serves as both a celebration of nature’s purity and a quiet protest against its encroachment by modernity. Shot on 16mm film, Nakamura embraced imperfections like grain and natural lighting to reflect the fragility and authenticity of his subject.

Nakamura’s filmmaking process was deeply influenced by the principles of Zen and wabi-sabi, emphasizing simplicity, transience, and the beauty of imperfection. The film’s pace is intentionally slow, compelling the audience to linger on each image and reflect on the fleeting beauty of unspoiled landscapes. The director also experimented with sound, incorporating ambient noises like wind, water, and bird calls, which he recorded on location to immerse viewers in the depicted scenes.
